ELKINS, W.Va (WDTV) – A man has been charged after attempting to hit a police officer with a vehicle.

On March 27, a police officer pulled over a man identified as Kevin Strickland.

During the traffic stop, the officer says Strickland was making “erratic movements” and admitted that he had marijuana in the vehicle.

When asked to exit the vehicle, police say Strickland sped off, making a U-turn and drove toward the officer, nearly striking him.

Strickland then fled the scene.

While fleeing, police say Strickland ran multiple stop signs and exceeded speeds of 90 miles per hour.

Strickland is charged with attempted murder and fleeing with reckless indifference.

He is being held in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail on a $100,000 bond.
