PRINCETON, W.Va. – Colton Block is a Princeton native battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

His mother, Misty Meadows, said that confronting it head on for the past 5 years gives him a different outlook on life.

“I love Colton’s heart. He is the guy that is just there for his friends, he always has a positive word to say, he tells me that he doesn’t regret having cancer because it has taught him about what’s important with life,” said Meadow.

And what’s important to Colton is giving back to those in need.

“Colton was selected for, it’s kind of like the equivalent to an adult ‘Make-A-Wish’, where they were going to give him money for him to do whatever he wanted with, and he said that he wanted to help other people and they said ‘no, you have to use it on yourself’ and he said ‘I don’t want it’, he wouldn’t take the money. And so, a social worker at Wake Forest helped him make a plan to start his own nonprofit,” explained Meadows.

That nonprofit, while still in its infancy, has helped to give Colton purpose amidst his treatment.

“It is so important to him to reach out to others, he’s working on a nonprofit called ‘CB Workin’ for JC’ and he wants to reach homeless people. He makes bags that has products that people may need. We carry them with us in the car, and if we’re in the city he’ll just hand one right out the window to someone sitting on the side of the road. So, it’s very important to him…through his illness, to reach out to others,” continued Meadows.

Colton is currently in Philadelphia, receiving care for a medical emergency. Yet as Meadows explained, he still has the drive and desire to serve.

“His faith is very important, and sharing his faith is important, and also being the hands and feet of that faith,” added Meadows.

Separate from their nonprofit, the family does have a GoFundMe set up to support Colton’s recovery.
