LIVE OAK, Fla. (Gray News) – A puppy is showing signs of recovery after being severely injured by its owner.
Last month, the Live Oak Police Department responded to a home after getting a report of animal abuse. When they arrived, a woman met them holding a 10-week-old puppy in her arms.
Police said the puppy had several cuts around her ear, swollen eyes and blood coming from her nose and ears.
Officers transported the woman and puppy to a veterinarian where the puppy was treated and learned it had a skull fracture and severe swelling around its head and skull. Police said that the puppy was in “obvious physical distress.”
On Wednesday, police gave a quick update on the puppy’s condition and shared some photos on Facebook.
“For those waiting to hear, Sweet-pea is back on her feet!” Live Oak Police Department said.
The woman who met police last month with the puppy told them that Eric Ivan Roldan caused the injuries to the puppy. She said he wrapped the puppy in a blanket and started kicking, stomping and slamming the puppy against the ground.
He was arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty.
