BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – Artwork created by students made its debut to the public this evening during the opening reception of the annual Mercer County Youth Art Exhibit.
The show that has been returning for over 25 years, is once again being held at the Paine Gallery in downtown Bluefield.
With the support of the Bluefield Arts & Revitalization Corporation, hundreds of students from local elementary, middle and high schools are displaying art that was painted, drawn, photographed, or sculpted.
For one Bluefield High School Senior, this show gives her the chance to show off her freedom of expression that she created on paper and with other mediums.
“I have about nine pieces and they’re all about my family, my experiences, my high school life, just kind of what I’ve been through,” said Odell. “I want a lot of people to be able to like relate to what I’ve been doing because I know that art has really helped me, especially throughout my elementary school years. I started with my aunt. She helped me out a lot with art, so that means a lot to me.
Community members can visit the exhibit at the Paine Gallery, now until April 30.
