The Easter school holidays are fun for many, but for others they can be stressful, especially if you are on a budget. Days out are expensive and a struggle for families who don’t have spare money.

However, not many of us will have time to brainstorm activities to do with the kids – especially if you’re working too. To help ease the pressure, we have compiled a list to keep your little ones entertained at home for less during the spring break.

From baking to crafting to gaming, we have ideas for children of all ages with ideas that won’t break the bank.

Easter egg hunt

Plan an easter egg hunt for your little ones. Kids will love searching for clues and chocolate eggs around the hours or if it’s dry, take it outside in the garden.

Egg decorating

Boils some eggs and paint or colour them with pens. A great tradition in most households and there are lots of tutorials online for how to turn your egg into a masterpiece or your favourite character.

Roll with it

Take the eggs you decorated to the nearest grassy hill in your area and get rolling!

Easter Crafts

If you have a printer at home from the dark days of homeschooling, why not make use of it?

Social media app Pinterest has some amazing Easter craft ideas including ideas on how to design an easter egg or easter card.

Egg and spoon races

Put the decorated boiled eggs to good use and have yourselves a good old fashioned sports day – what’s more fun than using them to have a family egg and spoon race.

Bake

Get your culinary head on and bake up a storm. There are lots of Easter-based recipes out there for you to try.

If you fancy yourself as a baker, try an extravagant Easter chocolate cake and if you’re not, there’s not much that can go wrong with chocolate Mini Eggs cake nests. It can be as simple, messy and fun as you want it to be.

Picnic

This one is always weather permitting in Scotland – but if you’re lucky, sunshine will fall on the bank holiday weekend. Why not set up a spot in the garden and have your lunch outside?

You could even invite friends over to join in on the fun.

Make an Easter wreath

This is along the lines of the Easter crafts – but more for the big kids in all of us. Make a wreath for your front door to mark the spring holiday and if you’re really crafty, it might be one you can pull out every year.

‘Egg’ tossing

Fill up some water balloons and play a game of ‘egg’ toss. The aim is to keep the balloons in one piece as you throw them from person to person. If you’re feeling really brave, use real eggs!
