DALLAS — The Dallas wings drafted college basketball star Paige Bueckers Monday night in the first pick of the first round in the WNBA Draft.
It’s a move that will completely change the franchise’s future, and the Indiana Fever are proof.
In 2023, the Fever ranked second to last in attendance. In 2024, they were by far the most attended team in the league, all because of what they did with the first pick in the WNBA draft. They drafted Caitlin Clark.
The 2024 Wings found themselves in the exact same place as the Fever did. They were second to last in attendance, with the first overall pick in the draft, and they used it to grab a Clark-level superstar. They drafted Bueckers.
Right now, the city of Dallas is begging for a star to latch onto — one they can watch grow and evolve. The lack of Luka Doncic has left fans searching for a basketball player they can identify with.
Why not start following Bueckers?
Don’t expect those attendance numbers to stay at the bottom. Don’t expect the UT Arlington College Park Center to house every Dallas game, because these wings will be taking off very soon.
