MEIGS COUNTY, Ohio (WSAZ) – A driver accused of hitting two construction workers and leaving the scene of the accident is now facing charges.

Jonathan S. Rees, 62, Racine, faces potential criminal charges of aggravated vehicular assault, failing to stop after an accident, and OVI, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Officials say the incident happened on Monday while the workers were pouring concrete curbs in the village of Racine.

Two construction workers hit by driver

Lt. Autumn Tackett of the Racine Fire Department said, “We found there were two people; one lying alongside the road, and one sitting up and, so I immediately started taking care of the gentleman who was lying down, while other responders started care of our other guy.”

The incident happened near the intersection of Fifth Street and Vine Street.

One of the workers was taken to the hospital, while the other was treated and released.

The report has been sent to the Meigs County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
