A Philadelphia couple having sex in a car accidentally put it in gear and rolled into the Schuylkill River, police said.

The unidentified man and woman reached the unexpected climax around 4:45 a.m. Wednesday, local Fox affiliate WTXF reported. They managed to escape safely from the sticky situation.

Police fished their 2020 Range Rover out of the water around 9 a.m., according to local NBC affiliate WCAU. A police spokesperson told the station the couple had been “getting busy” before losing control of the vehicle.

The couple had parked in Fairmount Park on the northwest side of the city near Kelly Drive and the Columbia Bridge, WTXF reported. Cops said they were “engaged in sexual activity” when they accidentally also engaged the car’s gear.

Both the man and woman were unharmed in the incident, according to WCAU. The same could not be said for the waterlogged Range Rover.

The Philadelphia duo could be considered lucky to escape with their lives.

In 2017, a young Russian couple was having sex in a car when it rolled into a lake. Evgeny Chernov and Yana Kryuchkova, both 22, were unable to escape the vehicle and drowned in the lake, authorities said at the time.

Wednesday morning’s incident was also the second time in a month that a car mysteriously rolled into the Schuylkill River.

On Aug. 16, a car also rolled off Kelly Drive and into Schuylkill, but divers found no one inside the vehicle after an extensive search. The back windshield was shattered, and a window was opened, but all four doors were locked, police said.
