BLUEFIELD, W. Va. -A new exhibit has been unveiled at the Gary Bowling’s House of Art that features the talents of a local artist who experiments with a variety of art styles.

Kathy Kennedy says this is her first time showcasing her art on this scale and says that it’s an exciting experience. She started her art journey self-taught, picking up a variety of styles from inspiration online and from her imagination.

One style that caught her eye is Zentangle, an art that utilizes repeating five shapes and became a certified Zentangle art teacher in recent years.

Kennedy says since the gallery opened, everyone has complimented her work, with purchases being made as well. She says it’s “exhilarating” seeing people appreciate the effort that goes into her art… art that she’s dedicated so much of her life creating.

“Some people tell me I have a demented mind when I draw some of my things…” says Kennedy, “…I have loved to draw all my life. Ever since I’ve been a little bitty teeny girl, I’ve drawn a lot. I’ve just loved… just loved to do that. It just takes me away.”

If you would like to see Kennedy’s art for yourself, it will be on display at the Gary Bowling’s House of Art for the month. The House of Art is open every Saturday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm or by appointment.
