Plans for 30 lodges nestled within the 240-acre ancient woodland at Mar Hall have been given the green light.

Planning permission was issued by Renfrewshire Council for the build of the one, two and four-bedroom lodges within the woods of the 240-acre estate in Bishopton.

The ambitious project will, hotel bosses say, be completed by spring next year and forms part of owner’s Dutco’s £15 million investment in the resort which fell into administration next year.

Aimed at couples, groups and families, each lodge will benefit from its own private entrance and outdoor terrace with hot tub and will have views of the River Clyde and Kilpatrick Hills.

Inside, guests will find rustic charm, with a super king bed, dressing area, en-suite, lounge and log burner.

For those looking to explore, each lodge also comes equipped with its own set of bicycles allowing guests to tour the grounds and neighbouring Luss Estate.

The new lodges will add a further initial 48 bedrooms to the resort’s current key count of 70 and seeks to meet the needs of large corporate and international group bookings, as well as those seeking accommodation for larger events and wedding parties.

Joe Gallacher, general manager at Mar Hall Hotel, Golf & Spa Resort, said: “We’re thrilled our proposal for 30 luxurious woodland lodges has been approved by Renfrewshire Council.

“This marks a major milestone as we continue our journey of transformation across the resort, to achieve its full luxury potential.

“Creating an exceptional experience for our guests that seamlessly blends our stunning surroundings with the highest standards of luxury is at the core of our plans and we’re delighted that we can now get started on development to bring them to life.”

The development of the lodges also forms part of plans to rewild a forgotten area of the estate.

The project will, the business says, breathe new life into the surroundings, fostering a rich environment for native species and protecting the ancient woodland.

It adds to the introduction of a tranquil bee garden that homes 100,000 bees, the restoration of the historic fountain, and revival of the rose and knot
gardens.

The build of the lodges, which will create an additional 30 permanent jobs in Bishopton, is the latest in a string of investments at Mr Hall.

The Dubai-based outfit Dutco has already refurbished the spa and gym areas, the golf course and its associated equipment and facilities.

The main house will also undergo a mass restoration as part of the ambition to reposition Mar Hall as one of the most luxurious resorts in the country.
