LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A Lexington teenager with a rare aging disease has died.

According to the Herald-Leader, 17-year-old Zach Pickard died Sunday morning.

Pickard suffered from Progeria, a rare, rapid-aging genetic disease found in children and young adults.

Pickard was a member of South Elkhorn Christian Church, who announced his death in an online message to church members.

“Zach’s 17 years of life brought joy, laughter and great love, even as he endured Progeria,” wrote Michael Swartzentruber, Senior Minister of South Elkhorn Christian Church. “Zach lit up a room, including at South Elkhorn, where he was a beloved member.”

Pickard’s visitation will be held at South Elkhorn Christian Church on Friday, September 6, from 6-9 p.m. A funeral service will be held the next day at 11 a.m.
