DUBLIN, Va. (WDBJ) – 15-year-old Aden Hunter and his three friends were on the way home from watching the Pulaski County Cougars football game Friday night. The four teens are teammates on the New River Valley Tigers baseball team.

Around 11 p.m., Aden’s mom, Yana Hunter, got a call that turned her world upside down. She found out her son and his friends were involved in a car crash, running into a tree on Ruebush Road in Dublin.

“I feel like if it wasn’t for God, he wouldn’t be here, and all of our friends and family praying, because I really think God was with him,” said Yana Hunter.

Aden was flown to Roanoke Memorial Hospital that night in critical condition. Yana says her son’s injuries were so bad, she was terrified.

“His spine was broke completely in half and that he was going to have to have emergency surgery. Well then, before they could do that, he started having problems with his stomach. They had to immediately go to surgery to do exploratory surgery and they found numerous injuries inside of his stomach,” said Yana Hunter.

In the past few days, Aden has defied all odds and is on the road to recovery. Monday morning was the first time Aden’s mom got to talk to him.

“He couldn’t talk because he still had the tube this morning and his first words that he wrote down on the paper was that he loved me,” said Yana Hunter.

While Aden still has a long way to go, his mom hopes one day he may be able to step on the baseball field again.

There is a GoFundMe account set up for the boys’ and their families that anyone can donate to.

The Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office said the incident is still under investigation and their thoughts and prayers go out to everyone involved.
