Two men have been arrested after a police officer was hit by a car in Hamilton and left “seriously injured”.

Officers from Police Scotland were on patrol when they approached a vehicle on Low Water Road at around 1pm on Friday, August 30.

They attempted to engage with the occupants but the vehicle made off and was involved in a collision with one of the officers, a 33-year-old man. Police confirmed that the injured officer remains in hospital for treatment.

The crash involved a pedestrian and a car on Friday, police confirmed. The next day police announced he had been taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow for treatment to serious injuries and they were searching for the occupants who made off from the scene.

Two men, aged, 30 and 56, have since been arrested and charged in connection with the incident and are due to appear before Hamilton Sheriff Court on Wednesday, September 4.

DI Scott Robertson previously said: “Our thoughts are very much with our colleague who has suffered serious injuries in this incident.

“His family are aware and we are providing them with support, as well as the other officers who have attended the scene. We believe this was an isolated incident and there is no wider risk to the public.”
