MILWAUKEE — A handful of press and Harris-Walz campaign staffers reportedly suffered injuries Monday after an accident involving several vehicles in a motorcade for Gov. Tim Walz in Wisconsin.
According to a national political pool reporter traveling with the motorcade, the crash happened just before 1 p.m. as the convoy made its way to a Labor Day event in Milwaukee in which the governor was scheduled to speak.
The reporter said those involved were “shaken” but in “okay condition.”
“We were violently thrown forward, as our van slammed into one in front of us and was hit from behind,” they said.
Some reporters apparently came away with scrapes and bruises, while one exhibited a bloody nose. Another, the pool reporter said, was taken to urgent care for a possible concussion. Others were treated at the scene and released.
The exact extent of their injuries is still unclear.
About an hour after the crash, the majority of reporters and staffers were loaded into new vans and continued to Walz’s speaking event.
The reason for the crash is still being investigated.
According to a pool reporter aboard Air Force One Monday morning, President Joe Biden called to check in on Walz and his team before taking off to Pittsburgh for a Labor Day campaign event with Vice President Kamala Harris.
Walz, VP Harris’ 2024 running mate, started his day at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport with local labor leaders before hitting the campaign trail for LaborFest 2024 in Milwaukee.
