A man’s body has been discovered on a private beach in Brighton in front of a series of luxury celebrity homes.

The grim find was made on Tuesday at Western Esplanade, often referred to as ‘Millionaire’s Row’. Sussex Police confirmed that the beach was cordoned off as emergency services descended upon the scene.

The area, backing onto Shoreham Harbour, saw police, forensics, coastguard crews and paramedics responding to the tragic discovery on Tuesday afternoon. The beach remained sealed off into the evening.

A spokesperson for Sussex Police stated: “Police were called after a body of a man was found by members of the public off the shore of Western Esplanade, Hove shortly before 4pm on September 3.

“Enquiries are ongoing to identify the man and establish the full circumstances of the incident.”

‘Millionaire’s Row’ is renowned for its lavish properties, with average house prices standing at £2.5million.

It counts celebrities such as Fatboy Slim and David Walliams among its residents, while singer Adele also previously lived there, reports the Mirror.

Speaking to local newspaper The Argus, a resident who had just left a nearby Crossfit session said: “I just came for a gym session, the police were here before I went in. All I heard was that a body washed up on the beach.”

One local spoke of their shock, saying: “It was just unbelievable to hear that a body washed up. I heard about it before going into the gym. It’s really sad.”

Police had cordoned off the area and maintained a presence well into Tuesday evening before departing in the early hours.
