The body of a male kayaker was recovered at Loch Fyne, Argyll and Bute, after a massive search operation. The alarm was raised on Sunday evening after it was discovered the watercraft had failed to return.
After a call from Belfast Coastguard at around 9.20pm, RNLI lifeboats from Troon and Tighnabruaich were launched alongside Coastguard Rescue Teams from Inverary, Kames, Crinan, Dunoon and Tarbert. A Coastguard helicopter from Prestwick was also dispatched.
Belfast Coastguard helped to establish a plan and the search continued through the night before the body of a man, 52,was located on the banks of the loch at around 7:30am on Monday, September 2.
Police Scotland has stated that there are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in due course.
A spokesperson for Troon RNLI said: “The all-weather lifeboat returned to station and was made ready for service at 4.30pm on Monday 2 September – 19 hours after they launched.
“No further details are available in relation to this tasking. Our thoughts are with the family at this sad time.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.55pm on Sunday, 1 September, a search and rescue operation was launched following a report of a missing kayaker in the Loch Fyne area.
“The body of a 57-year-old man was found around 7.30am on Monday, 2 September, 2024, on the banks of Loch Fyne around two miles South of Lochgair.
“His family are aware.
“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
