A 16-year-old was slashed in the head during a clash with another straphanger on a Bronx subway train, police said Wednesday.
It was the second vicious slashing to occur in the city within 24 hours, cops said, and the third knife attack in the subway system over the last two weeks.
Cops released an image of the suspect in the Tuesday morning attack in the hopes someone would recognize him.
The teen was on a Manhattan-bound No. 2 train at about 2 a.m. when he began arguing with the suspect, whom he didn’t know.
The nature of the argument was not immediately disclosed.
As the two traded barbs the suspect pulled a knife and slashed the teen on the head as the train rumbled into the Prospect Ave. station.
The suspect got off at the station.
EMS rushed the teen to Harlem Hospital where he was treated and released.
In an unrelated incident about 22 hours later, a 45-year-old man was slashed in the face and neck when he was attacked by another man outside of Stuy Town on E. 14th St. near First Ave. at 11:50 p.m.
The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital. The man who attacked him ran off and was still at large Wednesday.
Tuesday’s train attack was the third knife attack to take place in the subway system in the last two weeks.
On Friday, a 26-year-old man was slashed in the face at the 72nd St. station near Broadway on the Upper West Side after accusing his attacker of jumping a turnstile, cops said.
When the victim confronted the farebeater, the two argued before the suspect punched him and slashed him on his face and ran off.
On Aug. 24, Nigel Dumas, 33, was knifed in the chest on an uptown No. 2 train after he and his accused killer, riding in separate cars, locked eyes through the window between cars, sources said.
As the two fought, Dumas pulled out a knife which suspect Shane Cunnison, 37, wrestled out of his opponent’s hands before jamming it into his chest.
The clash was gang-related, cops said. Cunnison was charged with manslaughter.
As of mid-August, assaults in the city’s subway system had dropped by 4%, from 382 to 364, cops said.
The man being sought in Tuesday’s attack is described as Black, about 5-foot-9, 165 pounds with a medium build. At the time of the attack he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black and white sneakers.
Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is urged to call NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
