Quick-thinking easyJet passengers and crew jumped into action to restrain a disruptive passenger wreaking havoc on a flight from Gatwick to Greece.

The inflight intercom is understood to have been broken in a scuffle between the passenger and cabin crew as they tackled him to the floor on Tuesday.

Some passengers helped subdue him while others filmed on phones or gripped their seats in fear.

He became rowdy and disruptive after declaring the pilot to be ‘rubbish’ when the plane flew through turbulence.

While this was going on in the cabin, the pilot was diverting the plane towards Munich, Germany, where it made an emergency landing.

Police met the plane on arrival, removing the rowdy passenger and handcuffing him on the tarmac outside.

One passenger said: ‘The cabin crew were great and very brave but the whole drama was very upsetting.’

An easyJet spokesperson said: ‘Flight EZY8235 on September 3 from London Gatwick to Kos diverted to Munich and was met by police due to a passenger behaving disruptively onboard.

‘While such incidents are rare, we take them very seriously and do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour onboard.

‘The flight was delayed overnight while we arranged a replacement crew and provided customers with hotel accommodation and meals along with updates on the flight’s departure this afternoon.

‘While this was outside of our control, we are sorry for the inconvenience caused.’
