Gavin and Stacey fans were delighted to hear that the beloved sitcom is set to return for a festive special this year.

But to the disappointment of many James Corden, who co-creates and stars in the series alongside Ruth Jones, revealed on social media that this episode will also be the show’s finale.

Filming has begun near Cardiff and eager viewers have been rushing to get a look at the set for the last time. There’s nothing wrong with doing this – but there is one drawback.

A fan of the show took to TikTok to urge people to stop posting spoilers online – as it’s “ruining it for everyone”. Emma Thomas said: “All these people that are going down to Barry Island to watch them film Gavin and Stacey – can you please stop posting it on TikTok and filming it, because I want to be able to watch the finale on Christmas Day half in a food coma with my box of chocolates on one side, and an alcoholic drink on the other.

“Watching it without going ‘oh I seen that on TikTok a couple of weeks ago – someone posted it’. Stop it. Stop ruining it for everyone. I want to be able to watch it on Christmas Day, and not be like ‘oh I seen that on TikTok’. You’re ruining it for everyone, and you’re just doing it for a few likes and a few views.”

People agreed with Emma’s warning – with many saying they feel like there’s been too many sneak peeks posted online recently. One said: “I don’t understand why people would want to ruin it either.”

Another chimed in with: “Totally agree – it’s on Facebook too.” And a third exclaimed: “Spot on. Stop it.”

The programme has been absent from our screens for five years, leaving fans hanging after Nessa (Ruth) popped the question to Smithy (James), with the scene cutting before his response.

Alison Steadman, known for her iconic role as Pam Shipman, is eagerly anticipating the cast reunion. In a recent discussion about the upcoming Christmas special, Alison shared: “I know it’s going to happen. I just haven’t seen the script none of us has seen the script.”

Talking about Larry Lamb’s involvement, who plays Mick, Pam’s husband, she confirmed: “As far as I know, yes. We only found out [it was happening] for definite the other day.”

Her affection for the series is evident with her adding: “It’s a wonderful series. It’s so nice that it’s so popular. I feel very privileged and very lucky to have been given that chance.”
