A young swan has died and three have gone missing in a park in Glasgow where children were allegedly seen pelting the animals with stones.

Glasgow City Council said it received numerous reports of boys and girls throwing stones at swans at a pond in Springburn Park in recent weeks.

Park rangers this week found one cygnet dead, and fear the three missing younglings have also died.

One remaining cygnet was found to be under-weight and was moved to a safe location on Thursday along with two adult swans.

It’s not clear if the council took any action over the reports prior to the swan death.

Officials said police have been informed of the ‘shocking’ incidents.

Our Countryside Rangers have been forced to move three swans to safety from the pond in Springburn Park following appalling attacks by children throwing stones.

A spokesperson said: ‘We would not normally disturb wild birds by moving them, but felt we had no choice on this occasion.

‘This type of animal cruelty is shocking and members of the public are asked to report wildlife crimes to the police by dialling 101.’
