BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – Last year, some schools in Mercer County implemented hybrid ticketing circumstances taking cash and providing a digital option as well.

From September until October 13, cash will still be accepted to enter games in Mercer County, but after that date, all ticketing will be completed through the digital platform “Go Fan.”

It’s the platform that’s been used by the WVSSAC for playoff games in previous years.

Mercer County Schools released a flyer saying it believes moving to digital ticketing will benefit fans. The new system will offer improved control and security, faster entry times, environmental sustainability, and greater convenience for families attending games.

Mike Collins, Bluefield High School Principal, says the county believes this was the best move to make, noting that with last year’s hybrid option for tickets over half of attendees chose the digital option.

“A whole lot of people that come to the gate and they’re asking, you know, “can we use our debit cards or credit cards,” and we’ve never done that in the past. The WVSSAC has moved to digital ticketing at all their state events, so, you know we’ve started to do that. Again, a lot of places you go, you go to concerts and professional and college games, they are moving to digital ticketing. So, we just felt like it was time to do that,” said Collins.

For the digital ticketing, there will be a one-dollar processing fee, and there is talk about offering season tickets going forward as well.
