BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – Nurses of the future have been accepted into WVU Medicine Princeton Community Hospital’s Aspiring Nurse Program.

A total of 19 nursing students from Bluefield State University and Concord University signed up for the program, which is designed to provide financial assistance and hands-on support. The program offers students up to $25,000 throughout their studies in exchange for a three-year work commitment post-graduation.

The initiative, which is a partnership between BSU and Concord, is designed to address the nursing shortage in communities.

“We are excited to welcome this year’s cohort and look forward to supporting them as they progress through their nursing education and begin their careers,” said PCH President and CEO Karen Bowling. “These students are the future of healthcare in our region, and we are committed to providing them with the resources they need to succeed.”

In addition to their academic pursuits, 10 of these students have already begun working as patient care techs or nurse interns at PCH, gaining invaluable experience in a clinical setting.

Students from BSU include Kaleigh Akers, Lillie Blankenship, Jordan Brooks, Mahala Finley, Harley Graham, Tiffani Hawks, Olivia Hughes, Robin Jones, Robert Nelson, Kayley Nichols, Kaysey Nichols, Anthony Orr, Mikayla Saylor, Alexandria Thomas, Ildin Arroye De Jesus and Akira Graves.

From Concord are Haley Lawrence, Jenna-Kay Nash and Santana Strickland.
