A cannabis farmer caught with £70,000 worth of marijuana plants has escaped being sent to prison.

Michael Man cultivated the Class B drug at an address in East Calder, West Lothian, on a single day more than two years ago.

The Chinaman appeared for sentence at Livingston Sheriff Court on Friday after earlier pleading guilty on indictment to two serious charges.

He admitted producing the controlled drug and being concerned in supplying it to another or tohers on 5 May 2022.

His not guilty pleas to two further charges of possessing the Class A drug Cocaine and bypassing the electricity meter at the property at 38 East End, West Calder, were accepted by the Crown.

Man, 51, of Covenanters Place, East Calder, was handed a community sentence as an alternative to imprisonment.

Sheriff Valerie Mays ordered him to perform 225 hours of unpaid work within 18 months. She also tagged him electronically for four months under a restriction of liberty order.

He was told he would have to remain in his home between the hours of 8.30pm and 7am the following day or face being brought back to court and sentenced anew.
