CULLMAN, Ala. (WAFF/Gray News) – A woman found her missing brother’s body after more than three months following a crash in Alabama.

County Road 55 in the Cullman area isn’t the busiest but it’s a road that will haunt Katie Lewis forever.

“Honestly, I never want to drive down this road again,” Lewis said. “It’s just unfair that he had to sit here for three months.”

Those who have driven on County Road 55 toward Eva in the past 100 days, have passed the body of a man who had been missing since May 30.

Kody Martin, 34, was reported missing after law enforcement found his car slammed into a telephone pole.

But it wasn’t the authorities who found his body, it was his sister.

“I was sick of waiting, and I called and found out where the wreck happened and I had to go,” Lewis said. “I just felt him, I knew. We just knew that he was here.”

On Monday, Lewis went to the crash scene and that’s when she located her brother.

Lewis said state troopers investigating the crash dropped the ball.

“He was not protected, and they did not serve that day,” she said. “My brother was right here. If they would have searched, they would have found my brother.”

Coroner Jeff Chunn said he believes Martin was dazed, confused and injured from the wreck before wandering off into the woods where he succumbed to his injuries.

The man’s sister is now calling for legislation requiring a more detailed search of a crash scene so this doesn’t happen to any other families.

“Either a K-9 or a foot search is made of the area and that they could locate them,” Lewis said.
