ATHENS, W.Va. – Concord Football and Bluefield State Football had not played a game against each other since 1945, on Saturday afternoon that all changed

The Mountain Lions did not play in week zero of the college football season, giving them an extra week “off.”

BSU on the other hand, played at home that week, losing against Winston-Salem State 34-3.

Saturday afternoon a rivalry brewed in this game for what may be called “The Battle for Mercer County” as both campuses lay in the same county.

Bluefield State looked like a completely different team from what we saw last week, bringing in 3 interceptions, 2 of which came from Anthony Fisher in the 22-13 win.

They also received a 21 of 26, 282-yard performance from their Quarterback Christian Solino who showed impeccable ability to hit his receivers downfield in tight spots.

Concord had trouble getting consistency from their offense after a rushing touchdown to start the game.

Both teams will play again next Saturday, BSU is back at it at Emory and Henry University with kickoff at 1:00 pm.

Concord plays again at home for a second week versus UVA-Wise, currently scheduled for 3:00 pm.
