PRINCETON, W. Va. -Wednesday marks a somber milestone for the United States: 23 years since the 9/11 attacks. Now, to encourage remembrance of that day’s events, a local group has started a new tradition: a trip across the Two Virginias to recognize the fallen.

The Two Virginias Jeep Club was created last year for Jeep enthusiasts to meet and ride together. On Sunday, they honored the victims of the 2001 attacks as well. They created the “Remembering 9/11 Ride,” featuring a procession of American flags in a route from Princeton, West Virginia, to Abbs Valley, Virginia.

We spoke to Ethan Lusk, administrator and event coordinator for the club, who says the Jeep community is a patriotic one. He hopes that by holding this ride, they will remind everyone of those who lost their lives during the attacks and encourage people to hold more memorial events to honor the victims and first responders.

“So, we had nearly three thousand people die from 9/11. We’ve had mothers and fathers, kids, brothers and sisters, friends and neighbors. We’re just riding to remember them that they’re not forgotten and also paying respects to active and retired law enforcement and first responder personnel,” says Lusk.

Lusk says the group is planning to bring the Remembering nine eleven Ride back next year to create an annual memorial. He also says they are planning other rides throughout the year. You keep up to date on when those will be on the Two Virginias Jeep Club’s Facebook group.
