The latest figures reveal a slight decrease in unemployment in Scotland over the last quarter.

Official for National Statistics data indicates that between May and July this year, the unemployment rate for those aged 16 and over was 4.2% in Scotland, a drop of 0.5% from the previous quarter.

However, this is still higher than the UK-wide unemployment rate of 4.1%.

The statistics show that the number of unemployed people in Scotland fell from 121,000 to 118,000 between May and July.

The employment rate for those aged 16 to 64 increased by 1.2% from the previous quarter to 74.2%, which is still lower than the UK average of 74.8%.

In terms of actual numbers, there were 2,548,000 people in that age group employed in Scotland, an increase from 2,520,000 in the previous three months.
