CLARKSBURG W.Va (WDTV) – The community was out in force for the ribbon cutting of Clarksburg Classical Academy Monday.

The new charter school’s principal is excited for the school year.

“There’s still work to do we are always going to grow, and that’s the most exciting thing about education, is you never stop growing. But, I feel so blessed to have the people around me. Around our school, the parents the students, the community,” said Melissa Nelson, Principal of CCA.

The academy was approved by the West Virginia Charter School Board in 2023- and classes started last Wednesday. The principal says the school’s unique curriculum separates it from other schools.

“I think our school is special because of the rigorous curriculum we have. We are also building character traits. It’s so important that these students learn. We also involve our parents as much as possible. To where they feel welcomed in our building. I think it’s a great place to be,” said Nelson.

The school serves grades K-5 and they currently have 50 students and are still accepting more. Eventually, the academy will serve middle school and high students. Officials are encouraging parents to consider the Clarksburg Classical Academy for their kids.

“We welcome parents to take a tour, check out our website. I believe this is a perfect fit for your child because we are all about getting to know the child doing what’s best for the individual child, and also building a community in our school,” said Nelson.
