LOGAN COUNTY, W.Va. – Following a coal miner injury which resulted in a fatality in Logan County, WV on Friday, Senator Joe Manchin released the following statement.

“Gayle and I are devastated by the passing of Gary Chapman. We ask that all West Virginians join us in keeping his family, friends and loved ones in our prayers during this enormously difficult time. West Virginians and all Americans are forever grateful for the brave miners, like Gary, who risk their lives every day to power our great nation. Gary’s bravery will never be forgotten. Gayle and I send our deepest condolences to his wife, Jennifer, and all of his loved ones as they mourn this incredible loss.”

Gary Chapman had a dozen years experience in the mines.

The incident occurred at the Mingo Logan Coal mine and marks the fourth mining death in West Virginia this year.

This marks the eighth death nationwide.
