New Scottish Government statistics reveal that nearly all South Lanarkshireschools are in good or satisfactory condition.

The 2024 School Estate Statistics released this week show that 99 percent of school buildings across South Lanarkshire are in good or satisfactory condition.

This is part of a record 91.7 percent of school buildings across Scotland being in good or satisfactory condition – an increase of 29 percentage points from 2007 when the SNP came to power.

Rutherglen MSP, Clare Haughey, has said that new figures show how action from the SNP Scottish Government has driven a major improvement in the condition of schools in Rutherglen and Cambuslang.

She said: “The SNP is committed to delivering a world class education for all pupils, and high-quality learning environments play a key part in this.

“These record figures show the major improvements that have been made to school buildings since the SNP has been in government – including in Rutherglen and Cambuslang.

“I am delighted that 99 percent of our schools in South Lanarkshire now meet this benchmark. I regularly visit many of our local schools, and am always impressed by the facilities that are available for our children and young people.

“In the face of yet more austerity from the new Labour government at Westminster, the SNP is continuing to invest in the school estate through the £2 billion Learning Estate Programme.

“The SNP Scottish Government has made investing in public services one of its top priorities, and will continue to invest to ensure that all pupils learn in the best possible environment.”
