Heart FM presenter Jamie Theakston has been diagnosed with cancer, revealing the news in a deeply personal Instagram post.

This morning, listeners learned of Jamie’s condition after he opened up about his diagnosis on social media.

The 53-year-old broadcaster, who recently underwent surgery to remove his vocal chords, confirmed that doctors have found Stage 1 Laryngeal cancer.

Sophie Siegle, Jamie’s wife, also turned to social media showing her solidarity, posting the poignant words: “My man #wegotthis”. United since their marriage in 2007, the couple resides in West London and share their lives with their two children.

They have also shared their family dynamic publicly, participating as a unit on Celebrity Gogglebox.

The duo celebrated their nuptials in Ditchling, East Sussex’s village church on September 15, 2007. A host of stars from television and radio accompanied 200 loved ones at the festivities, including notables like radio personality Chris Evans, football legend Ian Wright, and entertainer David Walliams.

Taking place within the historic walls of St Margaret’s Church, dating back to the 12th century, well-wishers gathered outside amidst decorations of white roses and hydrangeas.

Their paths first crossed at the prestigious Oscars in 2005, where Sophie was managing an exclusive members’ club in Soho, and the spark led them to engagement during a whimsical Paris getaway.

Jamie, throughout his time in the limelight, has been associated with famed names such as Lady Victoria Hervey, Joely Richardson, and models including Erin O’Connor and Sophie Dahl.

Jamie Laing and his wife Sophie, who runs a jewellery business from their London home, are proud parents to two sons, Kit and Sidney. In a chat with his ex-Heart Breakfast colleague Harriet Scott following the birth of Kit, Jamie quipped: “We’ve decided to call him Kit, not after the Knight Rider car, you understand.”

He also assured that “He’s absolutely fine, he seems to be enjoying himself and his mum’s all well.”

Sophie has previously opened up about balancing her career and family life, praising Jamie as a “I have a very considerate and generally lovely husband who is usually home by lunchtime after a VERY early start, and he is brilliant at helping with school runs and sports matches if I have something that means I can’t do it.”

Addressing health concerns with his followers, Jamie revealed on social media: “Hi folks, as you know I recently had an operation to remove my vocal chords. The biopsy has identified this as Stage 1 Laryngeal cancer.”

He continued with a positive outlook: “So…I have cancer…but cancer doesn’t have me! The prognosis is very positive and I’m hoping to be back with you in October. Until then, I’ve been told to give my voice a rest and leave you in the mostly capable hands of JK and Amanda.”

Ending his message on a positive note, Jamie Theakston said: “Be thankful for this day, and when I see you next, I’ll have a great story to tell…Jamie x.”

His colleague at Heart Radio, Amanda Holden, took to Instagram with her own heartfelt share, writing: “Our wonderful @jamie.theakston has been diagnosed with stage 1 laryngeal cancer. His prognosis is very good and he has an incredible team around him.”

In her supportive post, she added, “Jamie. We love and miss you and look forward to seeing you very soon. With @sophietheakstonjewellery, your gorgeous boys, us and the entire nation with you.. YOU WILL GET THROUGH THIS.”

A household name, Jamie Theakston is well-known for hosting the Heart Breakfast show alongside Amanda Holden every weekday from 6:30am until 10am, as well as having a prominent career presenting several TV shows across major UK channels.
