Police have launched an investigation after a teenage girl was sexually assaulted inCoatbridge.

The 14-year-old victim was attacked by a man in a wooded area behind Miller Street in the North Lanarkshire town at around 8pm on Friday, September, 20.

The man, who was not known to the victim, is described as approximately 6ft tall and was wearing red Adidas Gazelles trainers.

Officers from Police Scotland said the teen has been left extremely traumatised by the ‘ordeal’. Extensive enquiries are now ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

Detective Sergeant Alan Gardner said: “This was an extremely traumatic ordeal for the victim and it is vital that we identify and trace the man responsible.

“This happened close to a relatively busy area and we are asking anyone who saw a man matching this above description, or anything at all suspicious, to please get in touch.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 4299 of Friday, 20 September, 2024.”
