Donald Trump has said that he will not run for president again in 2028 if he loses to Kamala Harris in November’s election.

When asked whether he would run again in four years if he loses on November 5,he told Full Disclosure, a US outlet: ‘No, I don’t. I think that that will be, that will be it.

‘I don’t see that at all. I think hopefully we’re going to be successful.’

It is thought the the Republican nominee’s comments are the first time he has explicitly ruled himself out of running to become president again if he loses in November.

If he did win this year he would not be allowed to run in 2028, as the 22nd amendment to the US constitution limits the number of terms a president can serve to two four-year spells.

But in the past he has suggested that he would try to seek a third term.

When he lost to Joe Biden in 2020 Trump refused to accept the result and claimed that the election had been ‘stolen’.

On January 6, 2021, Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol in an attempt to stop the certification of the election result.

He has since refused to say that he would accept the result of the 2024 election.

A new NBC poll of 1,000 people has Trump’s rival Kamal Harris five points ahead nationwide.

The poll put Harris on 49% to Trump’s 44%.

In July, NBC’s poll had Trump two points ahead of the then Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

The poll also found that Ms Harris’ favourability has gone up by 16 points since July.

This represents the largest increase for any politician an NBC poll since George W Bush’s surge in popularity in the aftermath of 9/11.

In July, 32% of registered voters had a positive view of Ms Harris, while 50% saw her in a negative light. In the latest poll, she has a 48% positive rating, compared to 45% who have a negative view of her.
