Performers getting set to to take to the stage in Lanark next spring have teamed up with a local charity ahead of their production.
Lanark amateur musical society (LAMS) have chosen Hamilton good cause Who Dares Cares as their official charity partner for next year’s run of Sunshine on Leith.
The musical, featuring music by The Proclaimers, follows the stories of Davy and Ally who have to re-learn how to live life in Edinburgh after coming home from serving in Afghanistan – and now the two local groups will work together ahead of the March show run
LAMS president Nicole Duthie said: “As a local charity with a link to the storyline, we are delighted to welcome Who Dares Cares as our charity partner for Sunshine on Leith.
“We’re very proud to be supporting them in raising awareness of the important work they do in helping veterans and their families in our area and across the country.”
Based at Douglas Street in Hamilton, the charity was founded in 2016 by former soldiers Calum MacLeod and Colin Maclachlan, and has a team of volunteers supporting former armed forces and blue-light services personnel suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, as well as their families.
The founders said: “We’re delighted to be selected as the charity partner for Sunshine on Leith.
“Adjusting to life away from the armed forces can be a difficult transition, and the work we do at Who Dares Cares is life-changing and often life-saving – life can be isolating and daunting for our service personnel and their families at times, and Who Dares Cares is here to help.”
Representatives of the charity visited LAMS committee members and Sunshine on Leith production team volunteers to celebrate the start of their partnership.
LAMS will present Sunshine on Leith at Lanark memorial hall from March 20-22.
