A police helicopter assisted with a rescue operation ‘in darkness’ on the River Clyde after a person entered the water.

Police Scotland’s air unit was scrambled to the river on Saturday, September 21, as part of a multi agency effort. Cops worked alongside the coastguard and officers from Inverclyde to locate the person and take them to safety.

A thermal image taken from the helicopter shows a boat approaching the stricken person in the water. Police Scotland reported on the incident on X, formerly known as Twitter.

A spokesperson for the force said: “The Police Helicopter was involved in a multi agency rescue last night when a person entered the River Clyde and got into difficulties.

“The crew was able to locate the person in the darkness and assisted in guiding HM Coastguard and Police Scotland Inverclyde to the location.”
