Scrambled eggs are a breakfast favourite, but the hassle of cleaning a greasy pan or dealing with smelly oil afterwards can be off-putting.

Stove-top cooking often results in splashes of oil and a messy hob, discouraging many from whipping up scrambled eggs at home. However, kitchen maestro Karli Bitner, creator of Cooking With Karli, has divulged a simpler method to make scrambled eggs without frying that even kids could master – and all it takes is a microwave.

The cooking pro said: “Microwave scrambled eggs are the perfect first food to teach your child to make themselves! These are fast, easy and have minimal cleanup!”

Though it might sound odd, cooking scrambled eggs in a microwave not only speeds up the process and reduces clean-up but also enhances the taste and texture of the eggs, reports the Express.

When cooked on a stove, constant stirring is required to avoid undercooked, soggy, or overcooked, burnt eggs if the heat isn’t just right. In contrast, microwaving ensures evenly cooked scrambled eggs with consistent texture, allows for tailored cooking times for preferred firmness or softness, and eliminates the need for any oil.

Microwaved scrambled eggs

Ingredients:

  • Eggs
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • Topping of your choice (cheese, tomato, chives etc)
  • Instructions:

    Start by cracking an egg into a microwave-safe bowl or ramekin.

    Firstly, season the egg with salt and pepper, then scramble it using a fork.

    Next, place the bowl in the microwave and cook for one minute. The exact cooking time will vary depending on your microwave’s power, so you might need to tweak the timing slightly.

    Once done, remove the bowl from the microwave using oven mitts as it will be extremely hot. Your fluffy and tasty scrambled eggs are now ready to be served on toast or topped with cheese, salsa, or any other topping of your choice.
