Airdrie defender Sam Graham admits ‘something needs to change’ after the Diamonds’ dismal start to the Championship continued at Morton on Saturday.

Rhys McCabe’s men fell to their fourth defeat in six games to sink to the bottom of the table and it came off the back of the sides being blown away by Falkirk seven days earlier.

Losing Rhys Armstrong to a red card in the second half didn’t help their cause at Cappielow, but Graham insists they need to stop making excuses and sort out the mistakes to turn their poor start around.

The Englishman said: “We were naive at times. Losing the opening goal and then having a man sent off didn’t’ help. Their goal knocked the wind out of us, but it wasn’t good enough again. It’s not been good enough for a few weeks.

“We’ve not been brave enough on the ball as a group and when you are down to 10 men, you need to get bodies on the line, get the basics right, which we didn’t do.

“It’s a new group but we can’t just keep saying that. We need to get to know each other, we need to bond.

“I’ll be fuming all weekend, but it’s about getting back at it. I think a lot of it comes from being brave, having your shoulders out and holding your head up and going for it.

“You don’t get any easy games, we go onto the next one but something needs to change.”

Airdrie must pick themselves up for a trip to high-flying Livingston on Saturday.
