BBC Breakfast viewers were delighted on Monday as weather presenter Carol Kirkwood made a comeback after a break. The weather forecaster had been absent from telly since the start of the month, with colleagues Matt Taylor and Simon King filling in.

Carol’s co-stars celebrated her return, with host Jon Kay announcing: “Carol’s back from hols,” according to Hello! magazine.

But Carol had to break some less cheerful news to her fans. She let slip an update on X: “The Met Office has an AMBER ‘be prepared’ warning in force today, across parts of central and southern England. Disruption is possible. There has already been some flooding @BBCBreakfast xx.”

Viewers were overjoyed to see Carol once more, with social media comments. One fan wrote: “Welcome back Carol hope you enjoyed your holiday,” and another chimed in with: “Morning, Carol. Great to see you back,” reports the Express.

Earlier in the month, Matt Taylor had hinted at Carol’s time off, posting: “Good morning all! I’ll be looking after most of your @BBCBreakfast weather forecasts for the next 3 weeks.” In the comments Carol confirmed: “Sure am!”

While the details of her three-week respite remain her own, Carol no doubt enjoyed spending time with her hubby, police officer Steve Randall, who she wed last December.

Carol has been a staple on our screens since 1998 when she joined BBC News as a weather presenter. Now 62, she is the main weather presenter on BBC Breakfast and has won the TRIC award for best TV Weather Presenter multiple times.

In addition to her broadcasting career, Carol is a successful author. Her fourth romance novel, Once Upon a Time in Venice, was released in July.

Her debut novel, Under a Greek Moon, was published in 2021 and quickly rose to number two on the Sunday Times bestsellers list. It was followed by two more releases in 2022 and 2023.

BBC Breakfast is on BBC One weekdays at 6am and BBC iPlayer
