BULLITT COUNTY, Ky. (Gray News) – A woman in Kentucky skipped a Labor Day weekend getaway when her husband asked, but it turned out to be a lucrative decision.
“I just wanted to watch football,” her husband told Kentucky lottery officials while laughing, so the couple decided to opt out of going to the lake and went home.
The pair stopped to buy a couple of scratch-off tickets on their way home – one for each of them.
“He wanted to scratch the 500X ticket, so I just let him have it,” the woman joked.
Little did she know, the Millionaire Club ticket would ultimately be the big winner.
As she scratched the prizes, the woman knew they had won at least $1,000. But as she continued to unveil the prizes, they said they couldn’t believe how much they had won.
“We know math, but it was hard to [calculate] 20 times 50 in that moment,” she said.
The ticket revealed a $10,000 win in the bonus area and four 500X times $20 spots to win the game’s $50,000 second prize.
The couple took home a check for $36,000 after taxes. They plan to pay some bills and put the rest of the winnings in savings.
