BBC Breakfast’s Jon Kay was caught in a moment of uncertainty on Tuesday’s instalment, as he questioned whether he could discuss a certain topic live on air.

Jon, 54, alongside co-host Sally Nugent, 53, found themselves discussing Worcestershire Sauce, leading Jon to admit of whether he likes the iconic sauce: “I do, in a Bloody Mary!”

Suddenly panicked, Jon interjected: “Am I even allowed to say that at this time of the morning?” only for Sally to quickly reassure him with a chuckle: “You are and you just did! You’re definitely allowed.”

This comical exchange follows Jon’s previous bewilderment in an episode last week, which featured a segment on luxury advent calendars with some priced at an eye-watering £640.

Jon’s astonishment over the prices was evident, prompting Sally to comment jokingly: “Jon can barely look, look at Jon’s face” followed by Jon replying: “I can’t believe this! I cannot believe this, people saying they pay £40 even just seems an extraordinary amount of money”, reports the Express.

In another humorous twist, Jon jested with Sally: “I just told Sally I’ll make her one just like you used to make in the old days” spurring Sally to playfully suggest: “I already know, I’m going to get you the beard grooming one.”

Perplexed, Jon then reflected on the absurdity of a beard grooming calendar, querying: “I have to do that for 24 days? How much beard grooming can you take!”

BBC Breakfast then posted the following tweet, which sparked a debate among viewers: “Would you spend hundreds of pounds on a luxury advent calendar? On #BBCBreakfast with exactly 100 days until Christmas, Nina has been looking at their popularity.”

Audience members didn’t hold back with their thoughts, as one remarked: “No way! “, and another shared a preference for tradition: “I love the advent calendars with just the old fashioned pictures behind the windows, my wife buys me one every year for my birthday on the 1st Dec and she says they are getting really hard to find these days.” Meanwhile, a third chimed in with a seasonal observation: “It’s September…..”

In other news, Carol Kirkwood made a welcome comeback to BBC Breakfast after a substantial break. The 62 year old weather presenter had taken a three-week hiatus and returned earlier this week.

Carol’s return on Monday (September 23) was marked by her sharing some less-than-ideal news from the Met Office, which might have dampened spirits: “The Met Office has an AMBER ‘be prepared’ warning in force today, across parts of central and southern England. Disruption is possible. There has already been some flooding @BBCBreakfast xx.”

BBC Breakfast continues on weekdays at 6am on both BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
