With the summer weather beginning to turn here in the UK, plenty are jetting off abroad in a bid to get a few more weeks of sunshine.

But sadly, this doesn’t always go to plan. One woman hoped to top up her tan in Turkey, but her trip ended up taking an unexpected turn.

Kylie, who shares her travel experiences and budget-friendly tips on TikTok under the handle englandandeverywhere, was taken aback when she looked outside her hotel window.

Torrential rain caused everything to be a complete washout – and there was even water dripping into her room. In a video she posted online, Kylie showed the extent of the downpour, captioning the post: “I woke up to a wet hotel room floor, with the bed sheet soaking up a bunch of water.”

It’s certainly not the kind of wake-up call you anticipate on a sun-soaked holiday. The clip has since gone viral, garnering more than 24,000 views, with fellow travellers chiming in with their disbelief at the rainy scenes during what is typically a dry month.

One commenter shared their own experience, writing: “We were at Daisy Beach when it started. Danced on the tables and chairs. It cooled us down as it was still 28. Got back to the hotel and they told us to change. If not, we would get sick.”

Another expressed their enjoyment of the situation, adding: “Love it. Nothing better than sitting watching the rain and storms on holiday.” A third also said: “It rained Tuesday during the night. I’m here just now – it’s roasting and sunny.”

Many were quick to comment that the rain only lasted a day, but Kylie highlighted it was enough to “flood her hotel room”. Her subsequent videos showcased much brighter weather throughout her trip.

In additional footage, Kylie captured the splendour of Turkey – from the breathtaking views on offer to savvy dining on a budget. She also shared her experience with the 100 Lira challenge, demonstrating what £2.25 could bagyou at a local supermarket.

With this amount, she scored some Pepsi, two cartons of cherry juice, baklava, five apples, sesame seed crackers and noodles. Despite the impressive haul, some remarked that prices seem to have risen recently in the region.

One commenter expressed surprise, asking: “How you do that? I couldn’t even get a pack of baby wipes for less than 600 lira in Antalya let alone a chocolate bar.” Another chimed in with: “100 Lira was £5 in 2022.”
