Police Scotland is investigating after a £50,000 theft at a landfill site. The force launched the probe after 800 litres of diesel went missing.

The fuel vanished from Greengairs landfill site, in Airdrie, North Lanarkshire, between Sunday afternoon and yesterday morning, Monday, September 23, 2024.

The thieves responsible also swiped various unspecified tools and 300 metres of copper cable, with the total haul estimated to be worth £50,000.

Police Scotland has now appealed to the public for help to trace the crooks responsible for the “high-value theft” at the site, which is owned by FCC Recycling (UK) Limited.

Detective Constable Craig Hartley said: “Our enquiries into this significant theft are ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual at the time to come forward.

“If you saw anything unusual or suspicious in the area, including any suspicious vehicles, please contact police immediately. Additionally, we encourage anyone with dash-cam footage or other relevant information to reach out.

“It could be crucial to our investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference number 0591of 23 September, 2024.
