John Gilligan is now at the top of the table in the Rangers boardroom but it’s still unclear if it’s a hot seat or an ejector seat.

Fans are split as well, with Dave King back on the scene and looking to muscle his way back in. Gilligan attempted to steady the ship by addressing fans on Monday, but it seems some will take a lot of convincing.

Robert Livingstone, Palm Beach, said: “Of course the Rangers board is openly hostile against Dave King. They want him to keep his mouth shut and disappear quickly after what he’s been saying about them, which they surely find unpalatable. Then again, the truth normally is. The well paid suits on the board can’t take criticism.”

Drew Ferguson, Oban, said: “I would have respected interim chairman John Gilligan more if had admitted major mistakes from the Rangers board that has largely led to the current state of play. Rangers should not have let players run down contracts, appointed novice managers and allowed them to waste millions on players that were not good enough.”

Eddie Easson, Ballingry, said: “The chaos continues at Ibrox with a different rumour each day. Now Mr Gilligan and the man who would be king are at each other’s throats. Of course Mr King wants back, he is the major shareholder and can’t offload his 14 percent. Funnily enough, he talks about bringing millions in but talk is cheap.”

Meanwhile Jamie Thompson, Yoker, said: “If Rangers lose to Malmö and one more league game then the Ranger board will have to make a decision on his future.”

Across the other side of the city, some Celts are touchy about rivals tarnishing last week’s Champions League win. Derek Cormack emailed: “George Wilson reckons Celtic beat the worst team in the Champions League this season. Well Georgie boy, that’s twice this season we’ve beaten the worst team in the Champions League.”

Mark McBrearty, Dumbarton, said: “Rangers fans should stop worrying about Celtic and concentrate on your own club. Slovan Bratislava have been as successful as Rangers in Europe – as they’ve also won a Cup Winners Cup trophy. They are also current champions of their country and also made it through the qualifying stages so they are in the Champions League on merit.”

But William Simpson emailed: “Credit to Celtic on their win against Bratislava, but there seems to be serious flaws in the defence.

Celtic’s Paulo Bernardo reacts after attempting a shot on goal from a free-kick

“When opponents are on the attack they are like rabbits in headlights with opponents shooting at leisure. They need to go back to the golden years when the penalty box was hallowed, with very few breaching it.”

Celtic got a fright from Falkirk with some fringe men copping flak. But Stephen Mulhern, Dumbarton, said: “I think it’s unfair that some of my fellow Celtic supporters are making Luis Palma a scapegoat for Celtic’s disappointing first half against Falkirk. He was only one of many changes that struggled to make a impact. And comparing him to Cantwell is way over the top. I for one hope he can turn his fortunes round in the coming months.”

Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, said: “John McGlynn’s Bairns put up a heroic battle and gave Brendan Rodgers the biggest fright of the season. McGlynn should be considered for the Hearts manager job.”

Speaking of the Jambos’ job, Neil Renton, Leith, said: “I had to check it’s not April Fools Day when my Jambos mates started to claim their next boss will be Graham Potter. Never mind the former Brighton boss, Hearts would need Harry Potter to get them out of the mess they’re in.”
