BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – Monroe County has taken the first step in modernizing the county’s vehicle fleet with the purchase of a new truck for the Sheriff’s Office. The purchase of a new truck cruiser was paid for entirely by jail reimbursement money, the Monroe County Commission announced.
In a press release, the Monroe County Commission said they have bought a 2024 Dodge Ram Truck Cruiser for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. The new vehicle will increase public safety efforts and give a robust, versatile vehicle for law enforcement, the press release said.
The truck is also expected to help improve response time, navigate difficult terrain, and help the Sheriff’s Office patrol the county. The Monroe County Commission said the truck’s advanced technology will help routine patrol and emergency situations.
“This new vehicle is a significant upgrade for our Sheriff’s Office. We are always looking for ways to support our law enforcement while ensuring that taxpayer money is spent wisely,” Monroe County Commission President Galford said. “By using jail reimbursement funds, we were able to make this purchase without impacting the county’s general budget.”
The jail reimbursement funds are received from the state as compensation for housing inmates at the Monroe County Jail.
Sheriff Michael Miller said the 2024 Dodge Ram will be a “game-changer” for the Sheriff’s Office.
The Monroe County Commission said buying the truck is the first step in a plan to upgrade emergency services vehicles in the county’s fleet.
