BECKLEY, W.Va. – An Oak Hill man was sentenced to 20 years in prison for a felony crime, the Fayette County Office of the Prosecuting Attorney said. The announcement was made in a press release sent out by the Prosecuting Attorney on Sept. 24.

According to the press release, 27-year-old Jacob William Edward Ross was sentenced for the felony crime of conspiracy to violate the Uniform Controlled Substances Act. Ross was convicted of felony drug conspiracy in 2018, and because he is a repeat offender, the Court doubled the maximum sentence for Ross, the release said.

Ross has to serve at least 5 years in prison before being eligible for parole.

The sentence comes after Ross was arrested in November 2023 after a traffic stop for expired registration, the Prosecuting Attorney said. After searching the vehicle and a passenger, law enforcement found a large quantity of suspected methamphetamine in the pocket of the passenger, the release said. A semi-automatic pistol was also found on the passenger, the release said.

The Prosecuting Attorney said a bag was also found which held a small amount of additional suspected illegal drugs and items typically used in the sale of illegal drugs. After forensic testing, the Prosecuting Attorney said the drugs were confirmed to be methamphetamine that totaled about one-half pound.

At the plea hearing, Ross admitted to conspiring with the passenger to buy methamphetamine to sell in Fayette County, the release said.

Ross was sentenced on Sept. 24, and will serve 20 years in prison, and is eligible for parole after serving five years.
