Richard Madeley shared on Good Morning Britain’s recent episode that there would be ‘breaking news’ regarding Phillip Schofield.

Reports from Tuesday suggested that Phillip, 62, is gearing up for a television comeback next week, after 16 months.

GMB’s host Richard, 68, commented: “Still to come, Richard Arnold is going to be here with breaking news on the return to television of Phillip Schofield.”

While presenting his segment later on, Richard Arnold disclosed that Phillip hinted at a ‘big announcement’ on Instagram on Tuesday evening, reports the Express.

Phillip, a former host of This Morning, indicated on his Instagram Story last night (24 September): “Watch this space… 9am [wink emoji].”

Talking about the social media post, as well as a Channel 5 teaser that dropped called Cast Away, which shows a man walking on a desert island beach with one chance to ‘finally tell his story’, the GMB studio shared their thoughts.

The Sun reports that next Monday (September 30) Phillip will star in Cast Away, where he will discuss the turbulent two years he has been away from television.

The programme was reportedly filmed in Madagascar over a ten day period. It’s understood viewers will see Phillip fending for himself on the island while he reflects on his past actions and future.

GMB star Richard Arnold said: “Quite the journey for him, I’m sure!” While host Susanna Reid added: “It’s fascinating isn’t it, we haven’t heard very much from him, certainly not professionally, and now it appears he’s been working with Channel 5…”

It comes as a source told The Sun: “This sort of challenge has always appealed to him though and after consulting with friends and family, he decided to go for it. It’s all been top secret, and has been an incredibly quick turnaround in order to keep the news quiet.

“With 10 days to himself, no camera crews or production around, he shot some unbelievably raw footage – some of it makes for tough, emotional viewing. But he wanted a chance to share his story, unedited and honest, and let viewers see another side to him.”

Phillip announced on May 20, 2023, that he would be stepping down from hosting This Morning with Holly Willoughby, 43, after more than 20 years. Following his exit, he announced he had previously embarked on an “unwise but not illegal affair” with a younger male colleague.

Five months after Phillip stepped away from This Morning, Holly also decided to leave the ITV show. In a statement posted to social media, she announced she was leaving This Morning after 14 years.

In March, Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley were announced as Phillip and Holly’s permanent replacements on the mid-morning magazine programme.

Good Morning Britain continues on weekdays at 6am on both ITV and ITVX.
