Eamonn Holmes had an acid reaction to the announcement of Phillip Schofield‘s television comeback.

The veteran Irish presenter, 64, has not held back in expressing his disdain for his former This Morning colleague Phil, 62.

Eamonn exploded on social media when Schofield departed from the ITV daytime programme after confessing to an “unwise but not illegal” affair with a junior member of staff.

He posted: “Schofield has finally been caught out” and slammed ITV as “The ministry of lies”.

Moreover, Eamonn vented frustration about how he and his ex wife Ruth Langsford had been “taken for fools” by Schofield when the duo console him live on air upon his revelation of being gay. Feeling bitter, Eamonn recounted feeling “felt used and ashamed” having been deceived by colleagues at ITV, leading him to unleash several incensed diatribes online.

With the news breaking that Phillip would be fronting Channel 5’s Cast Away, Eamonn didn’t hesitate to show that the rift between them remains wide open. The renewed buzz surrounding Schofield was met with visible disapproval on the GB News breakfast programme, reports the Mirror.

Presenter Isabel Webster kicked off the conversation, and it quickly became evident the update wasn’t well received by her, Eamonn, or their studio guests.

Dr Renee Hoenderkamp, a general practitioner appearing on the show, made no effort to hide her contempt, remarking: “Is this not just the chance for a narcissist to have more me time on screen?” She also stated firmly: “I don’t want to know his story, I’m not interested in it. I know that he’s a celeb and people do seem to lap up any news, whether it’s good or bad but I think it’s time maybe he stayed on the island.”

Former Home Office Minister Norman Baker expressed his exasperation: “So what? I don’t want to know about it, I’m not interested in it. Why is The Sun giving two pages to it? I suppose it sells papers but really, is that the most important thing in the papers?”

Interrupting, Isabel added: “Well, he was one of our most high-profile presenters in the country, he was married and he had two children when the scandal emerged, he lost all of his TV work including Dancing On Ice, he fell out with his one time best friend and co-host Holly Willoughby, who also quite frankly, didn’t she lose her job off the back of it all?”

She further mentioned that Schofield “had to leave social media” following his controversy.

“My heart bleeds,” Baker sarcastically remarked, while Eamonn laughed, saying: “Very good.”

Schofield disclosed he would discuss his personal trials in the Channel 5 show. Revealing how he spent his summer alone on an island with no resources, he wrote: “Now you know how I spent my Summer! Alone for 10 days, no food, no water, no crew. My story of survival, both on a desert island and off it.”

Speaking of his experience, he commented: “This is most definitely a first for me and the only thing I felt compelled to do. It appealed to me on so many levels. I’ve recently had a lot of time to think about my life, what went right and what went wrong, but I’ve always had the safe arms of friends and family wrapped around me. This time it’s just me, no phone, no comforts, no crew and only lip balm as a luxury.

“I’m looking forward to exploring the island, trying to tie knots to secure my shelter and foraging and fending for myself in the wild … with no help. Maybe I’ll be Robinson Crusoe, or maybe I’ll just be Tom Hank’s Wilson and quietly drift off into the wild blue yonder!!”
