Outlander’s Caitriona Balfe and Sam Heughan recently celebrated filming 100 episodes of the historical fantasy series, with production on season 8 soon to wrap.

It comes ahead of the Starz show’s epic return, as the second part of season 7 is just around the corner.

In anticipation of the brand new episodes, Claire Fraser actress Caitriona shared some insights into filming as she and Sam celebrated their milestone by cutting into a large black Outlander cake with a sword.

Outlander’s executive producer Matthew B. Roberts pointed out the sheer scale of the achievement, remarking: “If we shot continuously, it’s been four years straight of filming.

“And that’s not even counting our second unit,” he noted.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, who organised the celebratory photoshoot, Caitriona added: “Except it’s felt like 11” (which is the actual number of years they’ve all been making Outlander).

“This is amazing. This doesn’t happen very often — a century of TV.”

It comes after the actress previously shared a teaser with the publication about Claire being “in danger” in the episodes to come.

At the time, Sam said of season 7, part 2: “[There will be] welcome homecomings, as old relationships and friendships are revisited or put to rest, and then new ones that are tested and broken as well.

While Caitriona added: “The war has arrived and everybody is in danger, including Claire.

“And yet, there’s also these new threads of family that have been discovered, which is very exciting and it opens up a whole mystery that then plays out in this season.”

Outlander fans are getting more excited with every passing day as series 7, part 2 draws nearer, reuniting Jamie Fraser and Claire Fraser on our screens once more.

Author Diana Gabaldon, who wrote the book series on which the show is based, has promised fans a tear-jerking but ultimately happy finale to the show when it ends after season 8.

Following the closure of Lionsgate+ in the UK, new episodes of Outlander will be available on Starz and to stream on Prime Video channel MGM+ from Sunday, November 22.
