Janette Manrara was completely taken aback when Toyah Willcox dropped a sensational revelation on the show, admitting her uncertainty about whether the BBC could broadcast it.
The 66-year-old musician and current contestant on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing was paired with Neil Jones. While appearing on the BBC’s companion show, excitement filled the air as the host disclosed they would be performing a Jive to a famous Tina Turner hit.
As the selected song played, joy was evident among the studio audience and dancers alike, with rhythmic claps and sways accompanying the tune, until the conversation shifted towards Toyah’s personal encounter with Tina Turner.
Janette, who seemed just as surprised as the production team, learned that Toyah’s past experience with the celebrated artist wasn’t quite as standard as one might expect after they were apparently asked to share a dressing room.
Recounting the memorable event, Toyah left everyone astonished as she confessed to having seen the ‘Proud Mary’ legend stark naked, reports the Express.
Opening up the dialogue, the Strictly It Takes Two presenter queried: “But Tina Turner omg the ultimate show woman. And you actually shared a dressing room with her, didn’t you?”
Reflecting on the past, the actress reminisced: “I did. I shared a dressing room with her for one magical night. She was incredible, she was kind and she treated me like an equal.”
The conversation on the show took an unexpected turn when Toyah revealed: “She was astonishing and she had nothing on.” Janette, caught off-guard and uncertain whether the candid revelation was suitable for broadcast, reacted with a surprised: “Oh… okay,” while glancing at producers for guidance.
Noting Janette’s surprise, Toyah, wife of guitarist Robert Fripp, questioned: “Did they not tell you that?” Continuing unabashedly, Toyah said: “She just sat there completely naked.”
Trying to steer the discussion away, Janette suggested: “Okay, well we will discuss that in another point of the show.” Toyah, however, wasn’t finished and added: “I just kept looking in the mirror thinking ‘don’t turn your head left’.”
With Janette unsure of what might come next, she quipped back: “I thought you were going to say ‘I just kept looking at her’.”
