A flight on it’s way to Canada has been forced to land in Scotland following a “mid-air emergency”.
Air Canada flight AC843 was on its way from Frankfurt to Toronto when it declared an emergency around 7pm. A call was made before the plane began crossing the Atlantic. At first it intended to divert to Glasgow but at the last minute landed in Edinburgh.
Reports suggest the emergency services were ready for the aircraft on arrival at Edinburgh Airport. I t’s not known what the nature of the emergency was.
According to flight radar information, the flight is scheduled to take off from Edinburgh again at 8.30pm.
Aviation Source said on X: “In the last few moments, Air Canada flight AC843 between Frankfurt and Toronto has declared an emergency and is diverting to Glasgow.
“Due to the nature of the emergency onboard, the choice was made to make the u-turn before the Atlantic crossing.
“C-GHKR is the aircraft involved in the emergency. As per Planespotters, this is a 23.5 year old Airbus A330-300 that was delivered to the airline in May 2001.
“At this stage, the cause of the emergency is not yet clear.”
